Local Emergency Response

Volunteer firefighters with the Mt Martha CFA are typically activated when a member of the public calls 000, which is then processed and dispatched through the state communications system. Once allocated, incidents are sent via pagers and mobile alerting, prompting volunteers to respond from home, work, or the station. We attend a wide range of incidents, including structure fires, grass and bushfires, road crash rescue, hazardous material incidents, alarms, and assist other agencies.

Community Safety

Mt Martha CFA Volunteers play a key role in promoting community safety through prevention, education, and local engagement. Members actively support initiatives such as fire safety education programs, school visits, community information sessions, and property preparedness advice, particularly leading into the fire danger period. We assist residents with developing fire plans, understanding warnings, and reducing risk through vegetation management and hazard reduction activities. Brigades also maintain a visible presence at local events, strengthening community awareness and resilience.

Assisting External Agencies

Mt Martha CFA members regularly assist external agencies as part of a coordinated, multi-agency emergency response. This includes supporting Fire Rescue Victoria at structure fires and technical rescues, working alongside Victoria State Emergency Service for storm, flood, and rescue operations, and providing scene support to Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria during road accidents and medical incidents. Members assist with fire protection, lighting, traffic management, and manpower, ensuring incidents are managed safely and efficiently through a unified command structure under the AIIMS Principles.
